Cherry Price in Germany Shrinks 28% to $2.5K per Ton

Germany Cherry and Sour Cherry Import Price per Ton in July 2022

In July 2022, the cherry and sour cherry price per ton stood at $2.5K (CIF, Germany), waning by -27.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 an increase of 90% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $7.5K per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to July 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($4.9K per ton), while the price for Serbia ($606.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Germany Cherry and Sour Cherry Imports

After three months of growth, supplies from abroad of cherries and sour cherries decreased by -99.8% to 52 tons in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 15,873% against the previous month.

In value terms, cherry and sour cherry imports reduced sharply to $563K (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports, however, posted temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 23,421% against the previous month.

Germany Cherry and Sour Cherry Imports by Country

Hungary (5.7K tons), Austria (4.8K tons) and Greece (3.2K tons) were the main suppliers of cherry and sour cherry imports to Germany, with a combined 63% share of total imports. Spain, the Netherlands, Serbia and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the biggest increases were in the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +1,968.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Austria ($15M), Spain ($10M) and Greece ($10M) were the largest cherry and sour cherry suppliers to Germany, with a combined 63% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Serbia, which together accounted for a further 29%.
