In July 2023, the average artificial graphite import price amounted to $1,260 per ton, falling by -12.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 18% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,764 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Norway ($1,793 per ton), while the price for Romania ($987 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Artificial Graphite Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2022

The average artificial graphite export price stood at $1,619 per ton in 2022, surging by 29% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, artificial graphite export price decreased by -0.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 107%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,448 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($55,938 per ton), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($632 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Colombia (+562.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Artificial Graphite Imports in Turkey

For the fourth year in a row, Turkey recorded growth in overseas purchases of artificial graphite, which increased by 15% to 36K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +65.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, artificial graphite imports surged to $40M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Artificial graphite exports from Turkey surged to 629 tons in 2022, picking up by 35% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +103.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 51% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, artificial graphite exports skyrocketed to $1M in 2022. In general, exports saw a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
