Biodiesel Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2023
The average biodiesel import price stood at $1,458 per ton in June 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,323 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Bulgaria ($1,489 per ton) and Belgium ($1,390 per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($1,256 per ton) and Slovakia ($1,339 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (-3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Biodiesel Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average biodiesel export price amounted to $1,253 per ton, shrinking by -12.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 22% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,539 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($1,256 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia amounted to $1,233 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (-5.2%).
Biodiesel Imports in Hungary
In 2022, overseas purchases of biodiesel decreased by -12.3% to 86K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 27%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 104K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, biodiesel imports totaled $197M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 51%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
