Buckwheat Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2023
The average buckwheat export price stood at $752 per ton in September 2023, approximately equating the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,228 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($1,149 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($459 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Buckwheat Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023
The average buckwheat import price stood at $1,154 per ton in September 2023, falling by -5.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 an increase of 79% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,705 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($2,091 per ton), while the price for Russia ($459 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Buckwheat Exports in Latvia
In 2022, the amount of buckwheat exported from Latvia fell markedly to 11K tons, dropping by -32.3% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 17K tons, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, buckwheat exports reduced to $10M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase.
