Cabbage Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
In December 2021, the average cabbage import price amounted to $690 per ton, with an increase of 7.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a temperate increase from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, cabbage import price increased by +88.8% against May 2021 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2021 an increase of 39% m-o-m. The import price peaked in December 2021.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($1,471 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($165 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cabbage Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
The average cabbage export price stood at $722 per ton in December 2021, rising by 36% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a temperate increase from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, cabbage export price increased by +46.1% against August 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2021 when the average export price increased by 49% against the previous month. The export price peaked in December 2021.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Singapore.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Singapore amounted to +3.9% per month.
Cabbage Imports in Malaysia
In 2022, overseas purchases of cabbage and other brassicas decreased by -10% to 169K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 6.7%.
In value terms, cabbage imports fell markedly to $62M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a mild increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 24%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $90M, and then declined notably in the following year.
