The average cereals; millet, seed import price stood at $870 per ton in May 2023, rising by 20% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 67% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,315 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to May 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Sudan ($2,840 per ton), while the price for India ($585 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
