The average chalk and dolomite export price stood at $23.3 per ton in July 2023, shrinking by -30.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 159% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $120 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($132 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($12.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Chalk and Dolomite Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average chalk and dolomite import price amounted to $426 per ton, growing by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed a tangible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 79%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $603 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,026 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($211 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+56.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 24K tons of chalk and dolomite were exported from Turkey; with a decrease of -46.6% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 44K tons, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, chalk and dolomite exports fell sharply to $1.9M in 2022. In general, exports showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 16%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $3.1M, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Chalk and Dolomite Imports in Turkey

In 2022, overseas purchases of chalk and dolomite decreased by -13.8% to 96 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports saw a sharp slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 73%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chalk and dolomite imports reduced slightly to $41K in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a precipitous shrinkage.
