The average chlorides; of magnesium import price stood at $1,531 per ton in 2022, declining by -19% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 69%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,890 per ton, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($5,300 per ton), while the price for Italy ($683 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+24.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Chlorides; of Magnesium Imports in Libya
In 2022, purchases abroad of chlorides; of magnesia was finally on the rise to reach 7.5 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a sharp decrease.
In value terms, chlorides; of magnesium imports skyrocketed to $11K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.
