Copper Wire Price in Romania (CIF) - 2023

The average copper wire import price stood at $9,546 per ton in August 2023, approximately reflecting the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 5.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $9,776 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($13,193 per ton), while the price for Spain ($7,415 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average copper wire export price stood at $9,470 per ton in 2022, surging by 16% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, copper wire export price increased by +41.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Serbia ($8,825 per ton) and Hungary ($8,736 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($6,053 per ton) and Germany ($8,490 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+45.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, copper wire imports contracted modestly to $840M in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded significant growth.
