In 2022, the average crude palm oil import price amounted to $1,372 per ton, with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a notable expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 61% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Papua New Guinea ($2,081 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($1,125 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Papua New Guinea (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Palm Oil Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average crude palm oil export price amounted to $1,254 per ton, picking up by 6.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 217% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,213 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($1,178 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands totaled $1,164 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Senegal (0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Crude Palm Oil Imports in Belgium
In 2022, purchases abroad of crude palm oil decreased by -16.8% to 65K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 7.2% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 79K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, crude palm oil imports rose rapidly to $90M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion.
