Ethanol Price in the Czech Republic (CIF) - 2023
The average ethanol import price stood at $1.1 per litre in June 2023, with a decrease of -3.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 7.8% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1.5 per litre in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Hungary ($1.3 per litre) and Slovakia ($1.1 per litre), while the price for Germany ($1.0 per litre) and the Netherlands ($1.1 per litre) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Ethanol Price in the Czech Republic (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average ethanol export price amounted to $977 per thousand litres, picking up by 7.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 48% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1.3 per litre. From January 2023 to June 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1.4 per litre), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($706 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ethanol Imports in the Czech Republic
In 2022, imports of ethyl alcohol into the Czech Republic fell significantly to 140M litres, dropping by -35.5% on 2021. In general, imports showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 33%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 217M litres, and then contracted notably in the following year.
In value terms, ethanol imports declined notably to $153M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +11.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $221M, and then fell notably in the following year.

Ethanol Exports in the Czech Republic
Ethanol exports from the Czech Republic fell markedly to 34M litres in 2022, waning by -56.1% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 77%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 78M litres, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, ethanol exports dropped dramatically to $33M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 115% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $61M, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
