In 2022, the average frozen eels import price amounted to $21,191 per ton, rising by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, frozen eels import price increased by +54.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 89% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $23,453 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($21,285 per ton), while the price for China stood at $20,831 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+6.8%).

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of frozen eels, when their volume decreased by -30.6% to 885 kg.
