Frozen Whole Fish Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average frozen whole fish import price amounted to $2,181 per ton, with an increase of 48% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible increase from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, frozen whole fish import price increased by +47.8% against August 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 55% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,268 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($5,327 per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($695 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Faroe Islands (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Frozen Whole Fish Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2023
The average frozen whole fish export price stood at $1,235 per ton in September 2023, standing approximately at the previous month. In general, export price indicated a temperate expansion from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, frozen whole fish export price decreased by -16.3% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 an increase of 41% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,476 per ton. From August 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($5,322 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($713 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+11.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Frozen Whole Fish Imports in Latvia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of frozen whole fish decreased by -20.2% to 44K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 91%.
In value terms, frozen whole fish imports contracted to $69M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +11.6% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year.

Frozen Whole Fish Exports in Latvia
In 2022, shipments abroad of frozen whole fish decreased by -1.1% to 36K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 0.3%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 39K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, frozen whole fish exports amounted to $29M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 14%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
