Glutamic Acid Price in Uganda (FOB) - 2022
The average glutamic acid export price stood at $1,109 per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,109 per ton in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Democratic Republic of the Congo.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Democratic Republic of the Congo amounted to +1.7% per year.
Glutamic Acid Price in Uganda (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average glutamic acid import price amounted to $686 per ton, reducing by -7.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 44%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,513 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($810 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($99 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Glutamic Acid Exports in Uganda
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of glutamic acid and its salts, when their volume decreased by -0.2% to 101 tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 121%.
In value terms, glutamic acid exports fell modestly to $112K in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 209%.

Glutamic Acid Imports in Uganda
In 2022, overseas purchases of glutamic acid and its salts decreased by -8.1% to 3.5 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a sharp reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 104 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, glutamic acid imports contracted markedly to $2.4K in 2022. Overall, imports showed a precipitous decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 126%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $118K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
