Grape Price in Costa Rica (CIF) - 2021
In March 2020, the average grape import price amounted to $2,221 per ton, dropping by -5.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a abrupt slump. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,704 per ton. From February 2020 to March 2020, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2020, the country with the highest price was Chile ($2,228 per ton), while the price for Peru totaled $2,204 per ton.
From January 2020 to March 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (-9.0%).
Grape Price in Costa Rica (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average grape export price amounted to $2,656 per ton, reducing by -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 32%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $3,107 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nicaragua ($3,997 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($887 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nicaragua (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Grape Imports in Costa Rica
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of grapes increased by 11% to 6.6K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.
In value terms, grape imports skyrocketed to $17M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Grape Exports in Costa Rica
In 2022, the amount of grapes exported from Costa Rica fell sharply to 98 tons, declining by -23.5% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 132% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 128 tons, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, grape exports reduced sharply to $260K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 113% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $365K, and then contracted notably in the following year.
