Grape Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average grape import price amounted to $1,290 per ton, falling by -3.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 56% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $2,406 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($3,767 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($903 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Grape Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2023
The average grape export price stood at $1,571 per ton in September 2023, falling by -10.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 79% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,726 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($1,596 per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia amounted to $1,559 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+2.4%).
Grape Imports in Latvia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of grapes, when their volume decreased by -8.6% to 12K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 30%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 13K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, grape imports dropped to $17M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 36%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $18M, and then declined in the following year.

Grape Exports in Latvia
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of grapes decreased by -5.9% to 5.4K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +34.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 5.7K tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, grape exports shrank to $9.4M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +41.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $10M, and then reduced in the following year.
