Green Coffee Price in Tanzania (FOB) - 2022

In December 2021, the average green coffee export price amounted to $3,527 per ton, with an increase of 4.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw perceptible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2021 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous month. The export price peaked in December 2021.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Africa ($5,842 per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($1,578 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Green Coffee Price in Tanzania (CIF) - 2022

The average green coffee import price stood at $1,655 per ton in 2022, dropping by -37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 136%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6,680 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($4,520 per ton), while the price for Uganda ($994 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burundi (-1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Green Coffee Exports in Tanzania

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of coffee (green) decreased by -20.6% to 54K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 8.8% against the previous year.

In value terms, green coffee exports totaled $161M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 6.8%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Green Coffee Imports in Tanzania

In 2022, the amount of coffee (green) imported into Tanzania expanded sharply to 1.1K tons, picking up by 14% on the previous year's figure. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -23.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 92% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.5K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, green coffee imports declined markedly to $1.9M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a dramatic setback. The smallest decline of -20.4% was in 2020.
