In value terms, the United States ($92M), the Netherlands ($62M) and Canada ($54M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 47% of global imports. The UK, Belgium, Germany, France, Spain and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +21.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Country

In 2022, the average green peas import price amounted to $1,741 per ton, rising by 20% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($4,840 per ton), while Belgium ($459 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+10.4%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports

World Exports of Peas (Green)

Global green peas exports fell dramatically to 252K tons in 2022, with a decrease of -25.5% on 2021. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 109% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 476K tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the global exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, green peas export price increased by +79.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 31% against the previous year.
