Honey Price in Egypt (FOB) - 2022

The average honey export price stood at $4,626 per ton in 2022, reducing by -10% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 81%. The export price peaked at $5,141 per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($4,626 per ton), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($2,297 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Honey Price in Egypt (CIF) - 2022

The average honey import price stood at $3,764 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 92% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $6,844 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from China ($3,776 per ton) and New Zealand ($3,764 per ton), while the price for Spain ($3,750 per ton) and the United States ($3,757 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Honey Exports in Egypt

In 2022, overseas shipments of honey increased by 17% to 1.7K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt setback.

In value terms, honey exports rose remarkably to $7.7M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Honey Imports in Egypt

In 2022, overseas purchases of honey decreased by -77.7% to 62 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports recorded a dramatic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 57%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 276 tons, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In value terms, honey imports contracted rapidly to $232K in 2022. In general, imports showed a sharp decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $956K, and then fell markedly in the following year.
