Honey Price in Ireland (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average honey import price amounted to $2,648 per ton, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 35% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $5,319 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($22,339 per ton), while the price for China ($1,831 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Honey Price in Ireland (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average honey export price amounted to $6,608 per ton, which is down by -30.4% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated mild growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, honey export price increased by +23.7% against June 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 78% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $9,489 per ton, and then shrank notably in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($6,540 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malta amounted to $4,630 per ton.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Honey Imports in Ireland
In 2022, overseas purchases of honey decreased by 0% to 6.7K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports enjoyed mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 15%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 7.4K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, honey imports totaled $18M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $22M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Honey Exports in Ireland
For the third year in a row, Ireland recorded decline in shipments abroad of honey, which decreased by -11.8% to 336 tons in 2022. In general, exports recorded a sharp slump.
In value terms, honey exports contracted rapidly to $2M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a dramatic slump. The smallest decline of -22.6% was in 2020.
