Linseed Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2023
The average linseed import price stood at $679 per ton in August 2023, rising by 26% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced decrease. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $912 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($984 per ton), while the price for Poland ($551 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Linseed Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average linseed export price amounted to $720 per ton, reducing by -6.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 13% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $973 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Denmark ($1,041 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($629 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Linseed Imports in Belgium
In 2022, supplies from abroad of linseed decreased by -20.3% to 402K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 11%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 511K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, linseed imports contracted to $352M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $380M, and then declined in the following year.

From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, linseed exports expanded slightly to $140M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
