Live Fish Price in Thailand (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average live fish export price amounted to $9,484 per ton, surging by 6% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 40%. The export price peaked at $10,905 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($27,571 per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($1,530 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average live fish import price amounted to $2,173 per ton, surging by 5.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 169%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,121 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($1,739 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($1,109 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (-3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Live Fish Exports in Thailand
In 2022, live fish exports from Thailand declined to 2.6K tons, falling by -10.3% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 2.9K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, live fish exports shrank slightly to $25M in 2022. Overall, exports showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 12%.

Live Fish Imports in Thailand
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of live fish, when their volume decreased by -15.5% to 2.5K tons. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2.9K tons, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
In value terms, live fish imports fell to $5.4M in 2022. In general, imports saw a precipitous setback. The smallest decline of -9.9% was in 2021.
