This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Consumption By Country
China (4.8M tons) remains the largest maize bran consuming country worldwide, comprising approx. 17% of total volume. In value terms, maize bran production fell to $8.9B in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Global production peaked at $9.8B in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
Production By Country
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were China (4.8M tons), the United States (2.6M tons) and India (1.9M tons), with a combined 33% share of global production. Russia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Nigeria, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Turkey and Bangladesh lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.

World Imports of Maize Bran
In 2022, overseas purchases of maize bran decreased by -5.4% to 1.5M tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.6M tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, maize bran imports expanded slightly to $443M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +78.3% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Global imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The countries with the highest levels of maize bran imports in 2022 were Israel (211K tons), South Africa (158K tons), Germany (151K tons) and Turkey (135K tons), together amounting to 44% of total import. It was distantly followed by Egypt (79K tons), creating a 5.3% share of total imports. The following importers - Oman (66K tons), Belgium (52K tons), Brazil (47K tons), Singapore (41K tons), Canada (35K tons), Uruguay (33K tons), Spain (33K tons) and the Netherlands (32K tons) - together made up 23% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +57.1%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest maize bran importing markets worldwide were Israel ($69M), Germany ($39M) and Turkey ($39M), together comprising 33% of global imports. Egypt, Oman, South Africa, Canada, the Netherlands, Spain, Brazil, Singapore, Uruguay and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +62.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices By Country
The average maize bran import price stood at $297 per ton in 2022, rising by 8.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $306 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($497 per ton), while South Africa ($150 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Exports
World Exports of Maize Bran
In 2022, shipments abroad of maize bran increased by 25% to 1.9M tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, maize bran exports soared to $447M in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a modest increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports By Country
The United States (363K tons) and Brazil (278K tons) represented roughly 34% of total exports in 2022. In value terms, the largest maize bran supplying countries worldwide were Brazil ($91M), Germany ($72M) and Russia ($37M), with a combined 45% share of global exports.

Export Prices By Country
