Malt Price in Australia (FOB) - 2023
The average malt export price stood at $642 per ton in September 2023, surging by 2.6% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 31% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $826 per ton. From July 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Myanmar ($693 per ton) and Cambodia ($682 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mozambique ($587 per ton) and Japan ($618 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Malt Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average malt import price amounted to $930 per ton, shrinking by -10% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2023 an increase of 22% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,419 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the UK ($1,280 per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($496 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Malt Exports in Australia
In 2022, the amount of malt exported from Australia skyrocketed to 1.1M tons, rising by 15% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports showed a significant increase.
