MDF Price in Russia (FOB) - 2022
The average MDF export price stood at $417 per cubic meter in January 2022, which is down by -4% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2021 when the average export price increased by 12% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $435 per cubic meter in December 2021, and then reduced in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Serbia ($577 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($298 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
MDF Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022
In January 2022, the average MDF import price amounted to $616 per cubic meter, flattening at the previous month. Over the period from January 2021 to January 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2021 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $618 per cubic meter in December 2021, and then fell modestly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($869 per cubic meter), while the price for Belarus ($387 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
MDF Exports in Russia
In 2022, overseas shipments of MDF decreased by -5.2% to 1M cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 13%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 1.1M cubic meters, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, MDF exports contracted significantly to $347M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +24.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 49%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $415M, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

MDF Imports in Russia
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of MDF decreased by -6.5% to 323K cubic meters in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 345K cubic meters, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, MDF imports fell rapidly to $150M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +23.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 47%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $179M, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
