Mercury Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022

The average mercury export price stood at $40,158 per ton in 2022, jumping by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $87,847 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($49,909 per ton), while the average price for exports to Argentina ($31,159 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Mercury Price in Japan (CIF) - 2022

The average mercury import price stood at $18,118 per ton in 2022, picking up by 5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 83% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $22,228 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to -0.5% per year.

Mercury Exports in Japan

Mercury exports from Japan soared to 51 tons in 2022, jumping by 80% against the year before. In general, exports recorded significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
