The average mullite import price stood at $473 per ton in 2022, waning by -27.4% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, mullite import price increased by +2.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $676 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($1,463 per ton), while the price for China ($404 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+25.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Mullite Imports in Indonesia
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of mullites decreased by -25.6% to 3.6K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 4.8K tons, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, mullite imports dropped sharply to $1.7M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $3.1M, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
