Natural Polymers Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023

The average natural polymers import price stood at $5,262 per ton in September 2023, with a decrease of -16.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 27% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $8,213 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Austria ($12,210 per ton), while the price for the United States ($2,425 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+17.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Natural Polymers Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

The average natural polymers export price stood at $5,022 per ton in 2022, rising by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The export price peaked at $14,766 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($38,331 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($1,612 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Natural Polymers Imports in Australia

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of natural and modified natural polymers in primary forms decreased by -2.3% to 7.1K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 7.2K tons, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, natural polymers imports soared to $47M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 97% against the previous year.

In value terms, natural polymers exports skyrocketed to $4.2M in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 34%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
