China (43M tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of other chemical products consumption, accounting for 21% of total volume. Moreover, other chemical products consumption in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest consumer, India (18M tons), twofold. The United States (9.7M tons) ranked third in terms of total consumption with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in China amounted to +1.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+0.7% per year) and the United States (-6.6% per year).
In value terms, Ireland ($98B) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($34.2B). It was followed by Iran.
In Ireland, the other chemical products market expanded at an average annual rate of +31.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+1.2% per year) and Iran (+1.0% per year).

In 2022, global other chemical products production fell modestly to 208M tons, leveling off at 2021 figures. In general, production saw a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 3.9% against the previous year. Global production peaked at 236M tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, other chemical products production declined sharply to $147.4B in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 17%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $562.1B. From 2017 to 2022, global production growth failed to regain momentum.
Production By Country

After five years of decline, supplies from abroad of other chemical products increased by 28% to 724K tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a dramatic downturn. Global imports peaked at 14M tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, other chemical products imports surged to $2.2B in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a sharp reduction. Global imports peaked at $37.7B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports By Country
Vietnam (196K tons) and Mexico (167K tons) represented roughly 50% of total imports in 2022. Norway (55K tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Saudi Arabia (40K tons) and Oman (35K tons). All these countries together held approx. 18% share of total imports. Iraq (32K tons), Belarus (25K tons), Algeria (19K tons), Nigeria (19K tons), Turkmenistan (16K tons) and Iran (12K tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +10.7%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Vietnam ($645M), Mexico ($631M) and Norway ($127M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 65% of global imports.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +9.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices By Country
The average other chemical products import price stood at $2,971 per ton in 2022, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,079 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($3,886 per ton), while Iraq ($786 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+7.0%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports
World Exports of Other Chemical Products
In 2022, after seven years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of other chemical products, when their volume increased by 8.4% to 104K tons. In general, exports, however, showed a sharp reduction. The global exports peaked at 14M tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, other chemical products exports surged to $262M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a sharp setback. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs at $37.5B in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports By Country
Saudi Arabia was the key exporting country with an export of about 44K tons, which amounted to 43% of total exports. Mexico (15K tons) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Free Zones (13%), France (6.7%), Swaziland (5.2%), India (5.2%) and Vietnam (4.7%).
Saudi Arabia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the other chemical products exports, with a CAGR of +5.3% from 2012 to 2022. Swaziland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Free Zones (-2.0%), Mexico (-21.7%), India (-27.5%), Vietnam (-30.6%) and France (-36.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+42 p.p.), Free Zones (+13 p.p.), Mexico (+13 p.p.), Swaziland (+5.2 p.p.), India (+4.2 p.p.), Vietnam (+3.3 p.p.) and France (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($86M) emerged as the largest other chemical products supplier worldwide, comprising 33% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Swaziland ($41M), with a 16% share of global exports. It was followed by Free Zones, with a 15% share.
In Mexico, other chemical products exports plunged by an average annual rate of -8.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Swaziland (-15.3% per year) and Free Zones (+1.8% per year).
Export Prices By Country
In 2022, the average other chemical products export price amounted to $2,528 per ton, jumping by 48% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,739 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Swaziland ($7,512 per ton), while Vietnam ($415 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+17.1%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
