Peat Price in Belarus (FOB) - 2022

The average peat export price stood at $59 per ton in 2021, waning by -10.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 17%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $72 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($116 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($34 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+10.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Peat Price in Belarus (CIF) - 2022

In 2021, the average peat import price amounted to $76 per ton, picking up by 4.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 16%. The import price peaked at $127 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($188 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($27 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (-3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Peat Exports in Belarus

In 2022, peat exports from Belarus reduced dramatically to 299K tons, which is down by -21.1% against the previous year's figure. Overall, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +36.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 379K tons, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, peat exports fell dramatically to $18M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +27.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $22M, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

Peat Imports in Belarus

In 2022, imports of peat into Belarus amounted to 36K tons, growing by 7.6% against 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 39K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, peat imports rose remarkably to $2.7M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2.8M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
