Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Denmark (FOB) - 2023

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $2,054 per ton in June 2023, standing approximately at the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,337 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($2,526 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($1,507 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,721 per ton, approximately equating the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 14% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,788 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($2,389 per ton), while the price for the United States ($925 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Denmark

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of aluminium waste and scraps decreased by -4% to 113K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 15% against the previous year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports declined markedly to $193M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $237M, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 19%.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports declined remarkably to $23M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $30M, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
