Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Russia (CIF) - 2022

The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $1,885 per ton in January 2022, with an increase of 3.7% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2021 to January 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2021 when the average import price increased by 13% m-o-m. The import price peaked in January 2022.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,892 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan amounted to $1,876 per ton.

From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $1,503 per ton in January 2022, dropping by -27.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2021 an increase of 90% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,357 per ton in March 2021; however, from April 2021 to January 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In January 2022, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($1,731 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany amounted to $970 per ton.

From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Russia

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of aluminium waste and scraps decreased by -17.1% to 63K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 76K tons, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports dropped dramatically to $91M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 133%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $127M, and then fell markedly in the following year.

In 2022, the amount of aluminium waste and scraps exported from Russia shrank significantly to 731 tons, reducing by -19.4% against 2021. In general, total exports indicated temperate growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last three-year period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 135% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $1.7M, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
