The average import price for articles of apparel and clothing accessories, of leather or of composition leather stood at $4 per unit in 2022, which is down by -5.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 99%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $15 per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($5.4 per unit), while the price for Poland ($0.3 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for articles of apparel and clothing accessories, of leather or of composition leather amounted to $101 per unit, shrinking by -8.9% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for articles of apparel and clothing accessories, of leather or of composition leather increased by +73.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 71%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $125 per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($182 per unit), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($60 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+14.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories, of Leather or of Composition Leather in Uganda
In 2022, approx. 38K units of articles of apparel and clothing accessories, of leather or of composition leather were imported into Uganda; with a decrease of -7.6% against 2021. In general, imports saw a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at 44K units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, imports of articles of apparel and clothing accessories, of leather or of composition leather reduced to $150K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure at $267K in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In general, exports, however, showed a sharp reduction.
