Price for Copper; Waste and Scrap in Slovenia (FOB) - 2023

In December 2023, the average copper; waste and scrap export price amounted to $5,955 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $6,300 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to December 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($9,009 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($1,459 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average copper; waste and scrap import price stood at $6,898 per ton in December 2023, increasing by 11% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 16% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $7,243 per ton. From May 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($9,273 per ton), while the price for Serbia ($6,151 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Copper; Waste and Scrap in Slovenia

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of copper; waste and scraps, when their volume decreased by -22.4% to 24K tons. Overall, exports showed a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 13%.

In value terms, copper; waste and scrap exports reduced to $140M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +31.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $162M, and then dropped in the following year.
