In 2022, the average import price for cotton; sewing thread, put up for retail sale amounted to $12,227 per ton, with an increase of 3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average import price increased by 44% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $16,514 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($33,667 per ton), while the price for China ($8,237 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for cotton; sewing thread, put up for retail sale stood at $14,690 per ton in December 2023, falling by -61.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 275% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $55,956 per ton. From July 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($38,348 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($5,513 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Cotton; Sewing Thread, Put Up for Retail Sale in the Netherlands
