In February 2024, the average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of alloy steel (excluding stainless)s amounted to $331 per ton, growing by 3.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 an increase of 8.5% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $389 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to February 2024, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In February 2024, the countries with the highest prices were Pakistan ($342 per ton) and Bangladesh ($328 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($319 per ton) and India ($320 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to February 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
