Price for Glass Fibres and Wool in China (FOB) - 2023

The average glass fibres and wool export price stood at $4,091 per ton in September 2023, increasing by 2.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 11% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $5,078 per ton. From December 2022 to September 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($5,761 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($2,061 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Price for Glass Fibres and Wool in China (CIF) - 2023

The average glass fibres and wool import price stood at $31,065 per ton in September 2023, dropping by -11.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 57% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $44,257 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($144K per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($10,303 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Glass Fibres and Wool in China

In 2022, the amount of glass fibres and glass wool exported from China fell modestly to 189K tons, with a decrease of -1.7% compared with the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 192K tons, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In value terms, glass fibres and wool exports reduced modestly to $889M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +41.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 30%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $895M, leveling off in the following year.
