In July 2023, the average import price for iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses amounted to $670 per ton, remaining stable against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 4.4% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $769 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Romania ($680 per ton) and Italy ($669 per ton), while the price for Greece ($612 per ton) and Bosnia and Herzegovina ($668 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses stood at $657 per ton in July 2023, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 3.1% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $743 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Montenegro ($688 per ton) and Hungary ($671 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($652 per ton) and Croatia ($655 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the amount of iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses imported into Serbia stood at 162K tons, with an increase of 4.2% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 7.4% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 175K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses rose sharply to $143M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 45%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In general, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 370%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, exports of iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses declined to $38M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 584%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $44M, and then contracted in the following year.
