Price for Lamb and Sheep Meat in Bulgaria (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average lamb and sheep meat import price amounted to $5,885 per ton, growing by 12% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 74% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $7,392 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($11,209 per ton), while the price for Greece ($2,893 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by North Macedonia (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Lamb and Sheep Meat in Bulgaria (FOB) - 2023
The average lamb and sheep meat export price stood at $8,897 per ton in July 2023, dropping by -8.4% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated slight growth from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, lamb and sheep meat export price increased by +91.6% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 109% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $11,129 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($18,391 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($4,853 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Lamb and Sheep Meat in Bulgaria
In 2022, approx. 1.1K tons of lamb and sheep meat were imported into Bulgaria; with an increase of 8.7% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.8K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, lamb and sheep meat imports surged to $8.4M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
