In 2022, the average import price for optical fibers, bundles and cables amounted to $24,482 per ton, jumping by 19% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 34%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($66,217 per ton), while the price for Austria ($4,603 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for optical fibers, bundles and cables stood at $33,297 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 28%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($54,260 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($9,654 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Optical Fiber, Bundle and Cable in the UK
For the fourth year in a row, the UK recorded growth in purchases abroad of optical fibers, bundles and cables, which increased by 34% to 28K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 41%.
