The average import price for optical fibers, bundles and cables stood at $11,988 per ton in 2022, reducing by -6.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $17,895 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($48,065 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($6,932 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for optical fibers, bundles and cables stood at $9,568 per ton in 2022, falling by -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 39%. The export price peaked at $16,079 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($41,042 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($2,435 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+22.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Optical Fiber, Bundle and Cable in the United Arab Emirates
In 2022, optical fiber, bundle and cable imports into the United Arab Emirates declined significantly to 9K tons, with a decrease of -41.3% compared with 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 130% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 15K tons, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, optical fiber, bundle and cable imports contracted markedly to $108M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.
