Price for Quartz; Other than Natural Sands in Costa Rica (CIF) - 2022

The average import price for quartz; other than natural sandses stood at $309 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 6.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 14%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $329 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($1,174 per ton), while the price for Italy ($241 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for quartz; other than natural sandses amounted to $3,179 per ton, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 59% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,464 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nicaragua ($5,500 per ton), while the average price for exports to Guatemala ($1,500 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Honduras (+10.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Quartz; Other than Natural Sands in Costa Rica

For the fourth year in a row, Costa Rica recorded growth in purchases abroad of quartz; other than natural sandses, which increased by 31% to 1.1K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +21.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +77.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, quartz; other than natural sands imports surged to $349K in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +76.1% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
