The average export price for raw cane sugar (without flavoring or coloring matter, other) stood at $520 per ton in 2022, declining by -7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 52%. The export price peaked at $826 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Kenya ($540 per ton) and Tanzania ($522 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Sudan ($389 per ton) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($513 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
