The average import price for steel, alloy stood at $1,094 per ton in November 2023, growing by 4.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2023 when the average import price increased by 39% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,233 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to November 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for the UK.
From January 2023 to November 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Austria amounted to +1.6% per month.

The average export price for steel, alloy stood at $875 per ton in September 2023, leveling off at the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a moderate increase from December 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.3% over the last nine months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, export price for steel, alloy decreased by -12.1% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 46% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $996 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Turkey ($931 per ton) and Italy ($924 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($722 per ton) and Germany ($753 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
