Price for Steel, Alloy; Semi-Finished Products in Slovenia (FOB) - 2022

The average steel, alloy; semi-finished products export price stood at $2,580 per ton in 2022, surging by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, steel, alloy; semi-finished products export price increased by +39.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($4,617 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($1,686 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average steel, alloy; semi-finished products import price stood at $2,776 per ton in September 2023, with a decrease of -11.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 103% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $4,027 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($7,865 per ton), while the price for Italy ($2,147 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Exports of Steel, Alloy; Semi-Finished Products in Slovenia

In 2022, exports of steel, alloy; semi-finished productses from Slovenia dropped to 5.2K tons, waning by -14.1% on the year before. Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +35.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 6K tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, steel, alloy; semi-finished products exports rose significantly to $13M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +45.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 38% against the previous year.

In value terms, steel, alloy; semi-finished products imports soared to $13M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
