In December 2023, the average import price for steel, stainless amounted to $7,382 per ton, rising by 32% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a prominent expansion from December 2022 to December 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2023 figures, import price for steel, stainless increased by +31.5% against November 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 73% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $10,949 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($20,322 per ton), while the price for Estonia ($3,835 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for steel, stainless amounted to $4,286 per ton, falling by -7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $8,938 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($20,259 per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($3,650 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+11.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
