The average export price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped stood at $4,363 per ton in October 2023, almost unchanged from the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 13% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $4,434 per ton in March 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to October 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($5,267 per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($2,488 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped stood at $7,976 per ton in September 2023, surging by 9.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 113% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $8,263 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Brazil.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Egypt amounted to 0.0% per month.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +63.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
