In March 2022, the average tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse import price amounted to $4,398 per ton, with an increase of 9.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2021 an increase of 19% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $5,864 per ton. From June 2021 to March 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,187 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($1,465 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
