Price for Waste, Parings and Scrap, of Plastics in Australia (FOB) - 2023

The average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $278 per ton in December 2023, picking up by 21% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 48% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $643 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($769 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($184 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In December 2023, the average import price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses amounted to $841 per ton, growing by 45% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($1,154 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($362 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
