Russia, India, the UK, Mexico, France, Canada, Indonesia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.
Among the main consuming countries, South Korea, with a CAGR of +6.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of market size over the period under review, while market for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Global production peaked at 1.5M tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, register book production expanded to $4.9B in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the production volume increased by 11%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $5.5B. From 2020 to 2022, global production growth failed to regain momentum.
Production By Country
The country with the largest volume of register book production was China (617K tons), comprising approx. 47% of total volume. Moreover, register book production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (165K tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Indonesia (56K tons), with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in China was relatively modest. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: India (+3.7% per year) and Indonesia (-0.5% per year).

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 10% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 672K tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of global imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, register book imports rose remarkably to $2.7B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Imports By Country
The United States was the major importing country with an import of around 206K tons, which finished at 31% of total imports. The UK (37K tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 5.7% share, followed by Germany (5%) and the Netherlands (4.9%). The following importers - France (22K tons), Canada (19K tons), Australia (18K tons), Iraq (18K tons), Japan (14K tons), Spain (12K tons), Italy (12K tons) and Poland (11K tons) - together made up 19% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to register book imports into the United States stood at +6.0%. At the same time, Poland (+14.9%), Iraq (+9.7%), the Netherlands (+5.4%), Italy (+4.3%), France (+4.1%) and Spain (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +14.9% from 2012-2022. Germany and Canada experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Australia (-1.8%), the UK (-3.4%) and Japan (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United States (+11 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2022, the share of Japan (-1.8 p.p.) and the UK (-3.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United States ($705M) constitutes the largest market for imported registers, account books, order books and receipt books worldwide, comprising 27% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($196M), with a 7.4% share of global imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.5% share.
In the United States, register book imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the UK (+0.7% per year) and Germany (+1.4% per year).

The global exports peaked at 748K tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China prevails in exports structure, reaching 428K tons, which was near 57% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by India (73K tons), creating a 9.8% share of total exports. Germany (28K tons), Vietnam (26K tons), the Netherlands (21K tons), Poland (16K tons), Indonesia (14K tons), Malaysia (13K tons), Turkey (13K tons) and the United States (12K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to register book exports from China stood at +2.2%. At the same time, Turkey (+12.7%), Poland (+9.9%), the Netherlands (+8.7%), India (+7.7%) and Vietnam (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +12.7% from 2012-2022. Germany and Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-3.0%) and the United States (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China and India increased by +5 and +4.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($1.6B) remains the largest register book supplier worldwide, comprising 52% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($178M), with a 5.8% share of global exports. It was followed by India, with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled +5.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+2.4% per year) and India (+10.3% per year).
Export Prices By Country
The average register book export price stood at $4,168 per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The global export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
